Best of 2000s list -- new and improved

So I reconsidered a lot of what I posted as "Best of 2000s" at the end of last year. Came up with 40 records I'm a lot more comfortable with. I'll blame the original list on my rush to get the post up. Some great records I just forgot. Others, I've more recently discovered are better than I originally thought. So, I just changed my mind.

The new permanent page is listed in the right sidebar. Lazy people can click here.

  1. Your list makes me like the last ten years a little better. Probably because top 40 was so wretched, the decade at points seemed absolutely bereft of creativity--a misimpression this list belies.

On the other hand, I think I'm issing the Radiohead gene: I still only like them in spots.

  2. Yeah. Good rock radio dissapeared completely. You have to get your good rock through car commercials these days.

  3. The fact that Dinosaur Jr. is on here is completely ludicrous. He STILL sounds like a half-sleeping drunk stuck in 1995. I also notice this list is male-centric. There are NO women in rock?

  5. Just wanted to edit the post and deleted it above:

Snacky J., What's wrong with sleepy, '90s-struck drunks?
As for the women, I'd love to hear some suggestions. There are women hiding out in that list: Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Regine Chassagne (Arcade Fire) Feist, (Broken Social Scene), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth)... Considered Cat Power's "The Greatest", but I just didn't like that album that much... Love Portishead and Beth GIbbons, but didn't think their latest was very good...

I do wish there were more women in rock (posted about it a few weeks ago). If I did a list of my favorite 90s albums, there's be a lot more women... But I haven't heard a female rock act as good as Elastica... That was 15 years ago. Sorry.
